Andy Hayler's food rating system is a way to measure the quality of a restaurant's food. A restaurant with a Michelin star is considered very good, while three stars (the best) is an award that is only given to a few dozen restaurants around the world each year. In addition to this, restaurants now receive one of four food safety ratings to provide the public with more information about the level of a restaurant's food safety practices. This helps people make informed decisions when eating out.
Food inspectors work with restaurants to find the best place to display the sign on the window according to the King County Board of Health code. The rating system takes into account the quality of the food, but also other factors such as presentation and atmosphere. Even if a restaurant cooks perfect food, if it's not special in any way, the restaurant won't get any extra points and can therefore only achieve a maximum of 80 out of 100.
